Baking Bread With My Dad! (Special Episode)
We're spending the day on Pender Island (located in British Columbia, Canada) at my Dad's house and we're going to make bread together! My Dad (David Morton) is a baker, so he's constantly feeding his sourdough and churning out anywhere between 50-70 loaves each week. I spent several days up here filming his process, so it was a really special memory for me. It is my joy and honour to share my Dad's bread-making process with you. About my Dad's bakery: The Happy Monk Baking Company offers wholesome bread and sweet baked products to the residents of Pender Island, BC. The Happy Monk takes the whole bread baking experience into account by using organic, locally sourced whole grains (mostly milled on site) and nurturing his own sourdough culture used in everything he bakes. It is the realization of one of his long-held dreams, to bake bread in a wood-fired oven. Over the summer and fall of 2018, he built the oven and (mostly) natural shelter for his baking enterprise. His oven (Mildreth) is made of Pender Island clay and stone, and most of the logs and timber for the oven's shelter came from Pender Island as well. My Dad's wood-fired oven is a thing of pride, and every time he uses it, he feels inspired to produce the best bread his hands are capable of.
